Good Shepherd Montessori School

Farm & Land Based Learning

Maria Montessori’s concept of erdkinder (“children of the earth”) has been integrated into the curriculum at Good Shepherd Montessori School. One afternoon each week the children , both lower and upper elementary, work on a farm, learning about planting and harvesting food, caring for animals, and encountering the cyclical nature of the seasons. Most importantly, they develop a true respect for the earth and all living things, and understand themselves to be a part of creation in a very real way.
